An average rate of loss for by sheet and rill erosion, based on modelling, of 2.46 t/ha/year has been proposed (Panagos, Borrelli, et al., 2016; Panagos, Imeson, et al., 2016). These rates are not a threat to our ability to continue to produce crops for hundreds of years except in areas of extremely thin soils.
